CLOWNING

The Art of Clowning - Project Manual (ARTS6) (BBA116)   $2

This project is designed for youth in grades 4-12. You will discover the history of clowning while developing your own clown’s character complete with makeup and costume. You will study famous clowning acts, create your own props, learn about communication, etiquette, performing, puppetry, ventriloquism, balloon artistry and much more.

DRAWING & PAINTING

Drawing and Painting - Member Manual (ARTS0)     $2 

Introductory drawing and painting for youth in grades 5-12. You will draw with pencil, chalk, crayon, pen and ink; blend and shade; draw from nature; make surface rubbings; paint with watercolor, poster paint, oil and acrylics; use the brush; mix colors; and mat and frame your art and much more.

THEATER ARTS ADVENTURES   

Wouldn't it be fun to pretend, create sound effects, put on makeup, become an actor and take a bow? Youth grades K-12 experience all of these through the Theater Arts Adventures curiculum. Working one-on-one with a helper or in a group or classroom, youth imagine, refine and present creative ideas in the areas of acting, mime, movement, puppetry and technical theater (from makeup to costumes to lighting.)

This project is aimed at beginning Wood Arts projects designed for youth in grades 3-12. You will learn about wood and techniques for working with wood as an art form. Activities include working with driftwood, dry wood, wood whittling, chip carving, wood burning, painting wood items and decoupage.

Introduction to Leathercraft, Unit 1 - Member Manual (LEAT1)   $2

This beginning project is aimed at youth in grades 3-9. You will learn to work with leather stamping tools and to finish leather.

Beginning Leather Carving, Unit 2 - Member Manual (LEAT2)   $2

This beginning project is aimed at youth in grades 3-9. You will learn to work with leather carving tools, a swivel knife and to punch holes for lacing.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Adventures with Your Camera A - Member Manual (PHOT1)   $4

This beginning project is designed for youth in grades 3- 4. You will learn to look at the world through your own special viewer by discovering your photography skills. You will learn how to hold a camera, identify camera parts, care for your camera, identify the right film for the circumstances, and choose subjects. You will also learn how to save and share your photos, mount them and much more. In addition you will also learn about digital cameras. This beginning level project should not be repeated.

More Adventures with Your Camera B - Member Manual (PHOT2)   $4

This intermediate project is planned for youth in grades 5-6. You will take successful shots with your camera by learning photography basics and advanced techniques in composition and film processing. You will learn how to have improved camera control, utilize lighting techniques, improve picture composition. You will learn to improve photos. through cropping, positioning your subject, determining proper film speed and much more. This intermediate level project may be repeated. Completing Adventures with Your Camera is recommended prior to taking this project


This guide is designed to assist individuals, families, clubs and groups in selecting and planning their 4-H projects. It provides most of the information necessary to make project choices. Check the actual project manual for suggested requirements.

Each project is listed with the following information: PROJECT NAME, PROJECT LEVEL, ENROLLMENT OR MATERIAL ORDER NUMBER. The project enrollment or material order number matches the names an codes on the member or leader enrollment form.

4HCCS, COST, or WEB indicates the cost of materials or where they can be located. See 4HCCS below for clarification.

SUGGESTED GRADE LEVEL indicates for whom the project was designed. Most projects are divided according to three levels: beginners, intermediate, and advanced, and were designed to be appropriate for youth in that grade level. Parents and volunteers need to help the member decide which level is appropriate for them.

The PROJECT DESCRIPTION provides a brief listing of some of the learning experiences and activities that are included in the project.

ADDITIONAL PUBLICATIONS includes other materials, such as Judging Guides or Records, that are available for that project.

Use member or or volunteer enrollment or re-enrollment forms to order literature and materials for 4-H projects from your county Extension Office.

4HCCS is the nationwide curriculum development system of the Cooperative Extension Service. Its mission is to provide quality experiential based curriculum products to 4-H and other non-formal youth development organizations. North Dakota is one of the states that helped to develop this system. Many materials in this guide are 4HCCS materials, and they are identified as (4HCCS).
