Recreation
Resources
& Ceremonies
There are lots of reasons for recreation in 4-H.
Every meeting should include some recreation, especially
if the majority of the members are young. Often you will
need to plan activities for early arrivers. Active games
and folk games are especially suited to the closing
section of the meeting.
- To help members get to know one another better.
More friendships with more people are made during
recreation than at any other time.
- To get everyone to participate.
- To provide the feeling, "I belong."
- To add variety to meetings and programs.
- To get people to come to the meeting or program.
- For relaxation.
- Because it's the fun side of 4-H.
Recreation Resources
Recreation is a big part of most youth program meetings, activities and
events. Youth often list having fun and making friends as their reasons
for joining or staying in an organization. Meetings can be more successful
when recreation is planned.

and ideals of 4-H with dignity and beauty.
