Promoting Success in Agriculture for People with Disabilities and Their Families
Fall 2001 -- Volume 4, Number 3
Many farmers suffer sprains, strains, and occasionally breaks when they fall. Simply falling is the most common cause of injury today, in almost all occupations. Many falls happen when a worker is rushing to get a job done. Haste can make waste.
Some safety tips that can reduce the chances of a fall include:
Trina Gress, Co-Director of AgrAbility In Dakota, will be out of the office until mid November due to the birth of her son. Trina and her husband Benjamin were blessed with an 8 lb. 2 oz. baby boy, Ethan Benjamin, on Sept. 11, 2001 at 9:01 pm. Trina, Ben, and Ethan are all doing fine.
Limited Mobility Hunting Blinds are built with those in mind who can not climb into a conventional hunting blind. Richter Innovations introduces a new breed of hunting blind that enables the physically challenged to hunt from ground level up to 14 feet (eye level from a seated position) with no climbing. The blind is constructed of welded 1½" steel tubing and plywood and offers warmth, safety, and spaciousness for even the mobility of a wheelchair.
The Limited Mobility Blind is a 5x5 (25 sq. ft.) self propelled elevator-type hunting blind that lowers down to the hunter. A large door allows for easy access to roll or walk into the blind. Wheelchair hunters may transfer into a seat within the blind (optional) or take the wheelchair itself into the blind and hunt from it. At this point, the hunter simply lifts a switch which automatically raises the blind to whatever height she or he wishes to hunt from. Once the Limited Mobility Blind has been set up, it is securely anchored down by four galvanized steel cables.
Additional options include: lighted inside, propane space heater, thermal insulation, and custom designs and construction for special needs. Cost of the Limited Mobility Blind is approximately $2795, plus delivery charge.
