Extension News

North Dakota Ag Statistics publishes an annual handout titled North Dakota County Rents and Values.  This is a very handy reference for both landowners and tenants.  This, and other NASS reports, can be accessed at www.usda.gov/nass.  To save you a little time, I have complied some of the Bowman County information here.

Average 2004 Rental rates for Bowman County (all figures are for non-irrigated land)
Cropland- $24.20.     Pastureland- $9.50          Hayland- $18.80(alfalfa), $12.60(prairie)

Remember, these figures are simply averages from those producers who were polled via telephone and mail.  They will give you a guideline to start from, but actual land rental values will depend on many things including PFC yields, fences, water, terrain and prior management practices. 

Several years of drought and poor moisture timing have put many Bowman County producers in a bind for hay.  Please check the NDSU Feedlist at www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/feedlist if you are buying or selling hay, grain or other feedstuff.  If you would like to be added to this list, email me with all the required information and I can add you.
