flower relatively quick from seed. Fleshy roots can be
dug and stored but plants are not as uniform as those from seed. Divide before planting;
retain part of the stem. Pot up in March or April. Use for background planting and cut
flowers.

has gray green foliage; flowers in loose clusters.
Faintly fragrant, single, semi-double or frilled flowers. Short bloom period; deadhead to
promote rebloom. Best in full sun and rich, well drained alkaline soils; prefers cool
temperatures. Will take severe frost. May over winter with adequate winter protection; wet
soil conditions in the spring cause root rot. Rabbits love. Cuttings taken in early summer
root easily. Use for cut flowers, edging, planters and rock gardens.

color is best in the fall due to cool temperatures and longer nights. Use for edging.

and stored for replanting. Seed directly into garden or start seeds indoors in peat pots.
Use for mixed borders.

strain' (bred for blooms the 1st year). Use for background plantings.

Pelargonium sp like warm dry weather and full sun to partial shade;
allow to dry out between waterings. Zonal Geranium has an upright growth habit;
single or double flowers in hemispherical or spherical
clusters. Foliage is often zoned and may be variegated;
has a definite odor. Blooms best in cool summers; deadhead for more continuous bloom.
Start from seed (very early) or cuttings; root cuttings in perlite. Can be over wintered. Ivy Geranium has waxy, ivy-like leaves and trailing
growth habit. Scented Geraniums are grown for their foliage rather than flowers.
Scent is produced by crushing leaves; `Misquito Plant'. Martha
Washington Geranium has azalea-like flower clusters;
dark red on inside of petals. Do not like heat; needs cool nights to set flower buds.
Flower in response to daylength (Mother's Day). Use geraniums for hanging baskets,
planters and window boxes.

Tends to do poorly here.

shaped corms are better quality than flat corms. Flower 8-10 weeks after plant corms; dig corms after foliage ripens in fall. Primarily grown for cut
flowers; can also be used for background planting.

flowers, edging, planters and window boxes. `Strawberry
