Ag Improvement Annual Meeting.

 The Golden Valley Ag Improvement Association will hold their annual meeting on Friday, February 2nd.  Dues for the year are again $15.00 and are payable at anytime.  Members who have paid will receive a free copy of the 2007 crop production guide, as well as a free prime rib supper at the meeting.  The meeting will be at the Golva Bar with a social beginning at 5:30 and supper to be served at 6 pm.  Roger Ashley, Area Extension Agronomist is scheduled to speak, as well as a representative from the Sunflower Council.  A door prize of 25 acres free field inspection will also be given away.  Following the meeting, elections will be held for representatives to the Pea and Lentil Council and the Sunflower division of the oilseed council.

Pesticide Certification

 This year we will be holding a joint pesticide certification with Stark/Billings County in Medora.  The date for our certification is February 20th, at 12:30 at the Medora Community Center.    If anyone is looking at receiving an initial certification you should contact the office.  A listing of other certification opportunities in the area is listed below.

 Fumigation Trainings

 We held the fumigation training for G. V. Co. on Jan. 30th.  If you missed this  and need to re-certify here are other opportunities in the area.  2/12 in New England, 2/26 in Bowman and 3/22 in Dickinson.  Please contact the office if you need information .

 Manitoba- ND Zero Till Association Workshop

 The annual Manitoba-ND Zero Till Association Workshop is scheduled for Feb 6-7 in Brandon, Manitoba.  The theme for this years conference is “Exchanging Innovative Ideas.”  Registration for the workshop is $120 for both days or $80 for one day if you register by January 31st.  Further information and registration forms can be found at www.mandakzerotill.org.

NDCISA Ann. Meeting & Seed Increase Crop Show

 The annual meeting for the North Dakota Crop Improvement and Seed Association is set for February 15th and 16th.  Along with the business meeting, other speakers will include Dr. Dwayne Beck, talking about “crop rotations and carbon”, Dr. George Flaskerud, talking about “Biofeuls impact on ND Crops” and Neal Fisher giving a wheat trends update.   A full schedule is on can be found at www.ndcropimprovement.org.

 Again this year along with the annual meeting there will be a Seed Increase Crop Show.  Varieties eligible for the seed show are: Howard HRSW, Alkabo, Divide, and Grenora Durum, Maida Oat, Tradition and Legacy Barley.  For more information or additional copies of the registration blank are available by contacting the office.

 HRM Course offered in Mandan.

For those of you who missed Dr Wayne Berry at the SCD’s Cattlemen’s meeting, or for anyone who would like more information on his approach to grazing here’s an opportunity for you.

The Morton County Soil Conservation District and ND Private  Grazing Lands Coalition are sponsoring a two day workshop,  "Putting Profit in Your Pocket and Fun In Your Farm".  The workshop is a Holistic Resource Management introduction presented by Wayne Berry, Williston State College.

 Low Stress Livestock Handling Seminar

 For those interested in increased cattle performance, increased vaccine efficacy, earlier disease and injury detection, decreased stress related illnesses, and decreased livestock mortality make plans to be in New Town on February 8th.  Dr. Tom Noffsinger DVM will be holding a Low Stress Livestock Handling Seminar and a Live Cattle Working Demonstration at Fort Berthold Community College.  Dr. Noffsinger resides in Benkelman NE, where he operates a 90,000 head beef cattle management operation. His attitude and desire to work cattle in a stress free environment was formed while studying under Bud Williams, a renowned low stress livestock handler. Dr. Noffsinger has been teaching others about low stress cattle handling for the last 10 years.  The program is designed to benefit Livestock Producers, 4-H Leaders and Volunteers, and youth involved with livestock and also includes a segment on halter breaking animals.  Registration is due by February 6th, and the day, including lunch, is free for participants.  To register contact Elayne Hovde, Fort Berthold Extension Agent, at (701) -627-3446

 No Hettinger Beef and Sheep Day

 The Hettinger Beef and Sheep Day that had been tentatively scheduled for February 7th has been cancelled.  The Committee in Hettinger decided to cater to a different audience this year and held a program on January 25 entitled Healthy and Functional Foods: The Role of  Regional Foods in Reducing Chronic Disease Risk, in place of the traditional Beef and Sheep day program. 

 MonDak Pulse Day February 21st in Williston.

 The seventh annual MonDak Pulse Day will be held on Wednesday, February 21 at the Airport International Inn in Williston starting with registration at 8:30 am CST.  A $20.00 registration fee at the door will cover lunch and provide producers with a copy of the Pulse Day proceedings.
