Tree Meetings to be held

The Golden Valley County Extension Office, Golden Valley SCD and the City of Beach will be joining forces this fall and winter.  The main effort of this collaboration is to bring information to the area on trees, their care, as well as diseases that affect them.  We are in the process of planning a 3 part series of meetings that will take place in November and January.  The first Meeting will be held Wednesday, November 14th, at the Bijou Theater in Beach, with the featured speaker being Joel Nichols of the North Dakota Forest Service.  Joel will speak on the condition of trees in the area, as well as sharing some of his tree knowledge with us.  For more information please contact the Extension office at 872-4332 or Marty Campbell with the Golden Valley SCD at 872-4551.

High Moisture corn

High Moisture corn can provide a good feed source for cattle this fall.  Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking at High Moisture corn as a feed.  When using high moisture corn as a feed storage is critical.   Corn that will be used for this purpose should be harvested at 24-33 percent moisture and should then be stored much like silage in a bag, bunker or pile, making sure the final packed pile is covered.   Proper storage is needed to increase the shelf life of the product and reduce spoilage. Another way to improve storage of high moisture corn is to process the corn before bagging or packing.  Feed value of high moisture corn is much like that of dry corn.
