Leaders Update

Established in Grand Forks County in 2001, the 4-H Shooting Sports Program was designed to build life skills in youth through shooting sports.  Life skills that are targeted through the shooting sports program include:  concentration skills, mental and physical competence, mentoring between adults and youth, life long learning skills, leadership, citizenship, self-responsibility, critical thinking, and personal safety.

Currently 11 certified adult volunteers help teach and coordinate the shooting sports program across our county.  These adults have attended a 16 hour workshop that is structured around teaching youth development and the associated shooting sports disciplines.  Leaders in this county are currently disciplined in Black Powder, Shotgun, Archery and BB Gun/Air Rifle.

Black Powder, Archery, and  Shotgun classes take place during the summer months (May-August).  The BB Gun/Air Rifle classes take place during the winter months (December-March).

The 4-H shooting sports program is open to all youth ages 8-19.  Youth interested in shotgun and black powder classes are strongly encouraged to attain their North Dakota or Minnesota Hunter's Safety Certification before entering the classes.
