Spring Greetings 4-H Families

 

 

This is just a quick update to all 4-H families on some upcoming items concerning the 4-H program.  Enclosed is a flyer from the Western 4-H Camp. PLEASE remember that even though the brochure says “4-H Camp” it is open to ALL youth. You do not have to be enrolled in a 4-H club to attend!  The Communication Arts booklet has been recently revised.  If you have interest in this wonderful program, please either go on-line or contact us for more information.  www.ext.nodak.edu/4h/4-h.htm

 

Text Box: GRIGGS COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL SPRING MEETING             April 11, 2007 – 7:30 p.m.  This is the date for the spring council meeting.  All leaders are asked to attend and parents are also highly encouraged to attend. We will meet at the Griggs County Courthouse. The agenda will include setting the dates for Consumer Choices/Communication Arts Contests, discussion on camp scholarships, 4-H work night, interview judging, premium supper/sale, parade, etc.  This is an important meeting and especially so with the 125 Celebration of Cooperstown taking place this year during the fair.

 

Text Box: 4-H YOUTH – AGES 13-19

The 2007 4-H Extension Youth Conference will be held on June 18-21 at NDSU in Fargo.  The theme for this year is, HERO – Helping Everyone Reach Opportunities.  This opportunity is also open to all youth, ages 13-19, urban and rural regardless of whether or not they are in 4-H.  It is an action packed week filled with fun, hands-on learning activities. There are numerous opportunities to explore the Fargo/Moorhead area. Supervised events are held off campus and include community service projects, tours and the semi-formal banquet.

 

Text Box: 4-H HORSE CLINIC This clinic will consist of instruction in general horsemanship as well as the basics of trail and Western riding.  It will be held on May 19, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Winter Show Main Arena.  The instructor will be Duane Burchill of Valley City.  The cost is $15.00.  Protective head gear is required for all mounted classes and you will not be allowed to participate without the proper gear. If you would like a pre-registration form, please contact the office.

All 4-H members are invited to 4-H Day with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Wednesday, August 1.  There will be more on this in the next newsletter.

Flying Peppers 4-H News – By Justin Hanson

Carter Pedersen called the meeting to order. We said the two pledges.  The roll call was “What is your favorite kind of penguin?”   Then we decided that the next meeting will be at the Stockeland house on February 19 at 7:30 p.m.  Then Zach Hanson did a demonstration on beef parts.  Then Justin Hanson did a demonstration on swine.

 

Vice president Austin called the meeting to order. We said the two pledges. The roll call was “What is your favorite sport?” We decided the next meeting will be at Justin Hanson’s house on March 19, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.  Then Austin did a project on which wood is the strongest. We also did a lesson on judging dairy cows.

 

Carter called the meeting to order.  We said the two pledges. The roll call was “What is your favorite breed of beef cattle.” We decided the next meeting would be at Zach Hanson’s house on April 23 at 7:00 p.m.  We worked on leather craft and we talked about dairy judging.

VP Gavin called meeting to order and appointed Krista as acting Secretary.  Pledges said. Roll call was “When is your birthday.”  No secretary report, no treasurer’s report, no old business. New business:  Consumer Choices/Date in May for Livestock Showing. Next meeting April 2, 7:00, Megan Motter baking demonstration, Motters will bring lunch. Meeting was adjourned

Emmy gave her demonstration on making fruit dip. We ate it for lunch.
