Howdy !!

Short and sweet this week.  Just few comments about the annual meeting of the Ramsey County Crop Improvement association.  The meeting will be held Friday, February 20.  In the all farmer sent out two months ago a had February 19 but our two speakers had something come up that conflicted with that date so we changed to Friday, February 20. The morning will start at 9:15 with coffee and donuts with the first speaker (Mike Hergert) at 10 am.  Leon Osborne will take over at 11 am and visit with us his weather outlook for the spring and summer.  The Ramsey County Crop Improvement will sponsor dinner this day and the annual meeting will take place at 1p.m.  All Ramsey County producers are encouraged to attend.  The meeting will take place at the Knights of Columbus hall.

New Seed Increase!!!

Just a reminder to all that the new seed increases will be allotted at the annual meeting.  If you are interested in growing seed for the county association and county producers please stop by our office to apply for any of the four varieties that are available.  Varieties include: Barlow (NDSU HRSW), Brick (SDSU HRSW), Celebration Barley (Busch ag.) and a oat variety that looks to be a very good yielder.  You need to apply before FRIDAY, February to be eligible for any variety unless no one has applied and at that point those allotments would still be available.

We are getting really close to the start of the calving season and along with that comes long hours.  Remember when entering a pen with a mother cow, to take extra precautions.  Just last week I heard of a cattle man who decided to check on the new calf and mom did not like him in the pen and pinned him in the corner of the pen.  She beat on him for a period of time before someone heard the ruckess.  Luckily he will be o.k. but did end up with broken ribs and a really bad back, along with the thought of a cow he thought he could trust, not being trustworthy.
