Howdy!!!!
I think spring has sprung!!!!!  It is so nice to see the sun this morning and to hear there is a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday night; it really gets us in the mood for the spring season and gets us thinking about the planting season.  I made a trip to Edmore on Sunday to store things like my snow blower and other things.  To see the millions of geese flying is really amazing.  They are everywhere.  Another good sign that spring is really getting close.  Another fun sign of spring is the arrival of the newborn calves, lambs, kids (goats) and foals.  This was always my favorite time of year.  We would feed the cows that had already calved in the morning and to watch the calves wake up from the night sleep and start their bucking and chasing each other was very time consuming.  Then about noonish they would take another nap and literally sprawl across the newly bedded straw.  They would fall into such a deep trance that anyone could sneak up on them to either put a tag in their ear or give them a vitamin shot.  The growth of the newly planted seeds or our perennials showing their faces for us to admire is all a great time of year.

Shooting Sports!!!! (April 28 evening and April 29 all day)
The Ramsey County shooting sports program has really been a great hit for our kids in the Lake Region area.  We have excellent certified volunteers for both Archery and Rifle curriculum but am now in the need for volunteers for Black powder and shotgun.  We need to have 5 volunteers for each discipline to hold these trainings.  If you are interested in becoming certified in either of these two disciplines please contact our office by April 21rst. Either stop by or call 701-662-7027 to get registered for the certification class.  There is a $40 dollar registration fee, for the class, that will be waived for Ramsey County residents.

Strawberries???
If you have strawberries growing in your gardens remember to not totally remove all the cover that was used for winter protection.  You should however start pulling, back from the plant only, any cover that is covering the strawberry plant.  The penetrating sun will warm the soil very nicely and start the process of growing for most perennials.  You should not remove all of the mulch cover though as the last average date of killing frost is May 15.
