Howdy!!!!
I can’t even imagine how fast this summer has spun by us all. School has started, harvest is well under way and garden clean up is still facing most of us. This past week I had the honor of attending a friends’ funeral in Fargo. To know there are people in the world who really do care about someone else, is special. Jim and I met working for Dr. Frohberg in the Spring Wheat project on campus. Jim was a kind, dedicated person and friend. He had no enemies and if you needed any help or a listening ear, Jim was the guy. He would never repeat anything to anyone but rather a person that shared life to its fullest in many different capacities. He will be missed by many friends and most of all his family. It was really neat to see so many NDSU personal attend such an honorarium.
Gardening season has just about finished it’s course for the summer. It is a great time to take those precautions and preparations for the next growing season. Just this morning, while in the back yard, I drew up plans for next years, garden rotation. Remember a good rotation will help eliminate many insect and disease problems that can arise. A good example would be potato scab. This is also a great time of year to compost your garden and do a soil analysis to ensure your garden has the proper nutrients for the next growing season. Just a reminder of composting, do not use grass clippings that have been treated with a pesticide as different herbicides have different carry over effects and could affect various garden vegetables.
I am also including a reminder of Big Iron coming up the middle of September in Fargo. The dates are September 12, 13, 14 and 15. This is a great opportunity to view the new pieces of equipment available to producers but there are also many, many different booths available discussing new technologies in the farming sector.
Just a reminder of the Roughrider rodeo coming to town the end of September. The dates are September 22, 23 and 24th. It is a great time to support the community in its efforts and also support the Roughrider association for the great job they for our community.
