Howdy!!!
What a place we live: warm, unseasonably warm beautiful winter and then reality.  I started my old pickup this morning and it retaliated with a very slow start.  When it did start the old girl sounded as if it was on a screaming mission for another planet. 

I was in Benson County on Wednesday last week presenting a topic of “should we be farming marginal land” and met many producers, some new faces and many familiar faces.  It was fun to visit with some of the older gentleman about the old days and for some that meant only 20 years ago.  Twenty years sounds really old when we talk in terms of years but if we say 1986 that does not sound like long ago at all.  We did however talk about the dry years of 1988-1989 and also the high interest rates of the early 80’s.  Do you remember interest rates in the teens or even the low twenty’s?  I can and just think: for every dollar we made someone else got $.20 of it.  It is mind boggling how things have changed over the years.

Farm Marketing Seminar!!!!!
The local lending institutions of Devils Lake are sponsoring a marketing seminar featuring Edward Usset (Marketing specialist, University of Minnesota) on the Commodity Challenge, Thursday February 23.  A sponsored noon lunch will be provided with Ray Grabanski (Progressive Ag) speaking about the current market situation at 1 pm.  This very informational day will start at 10 am. with coffee and the presentation will start at 10:30 am.  The meeting will take place at the Knights of Columbus (KC’s), Devils Lake.

Ramsey County Crop Improvement annual meeting!!!
Ramsey County Crop Improvement will hold its annual meeting Thursday, February 23 at the KC hall in Devils Lake.  The meeting will start at 2:30 pm and should conclude about 3 pm.  Items for discussion include past increase distribution, new increase varieties for distribution, selection of growers and election of expired term directors.
