Howdy!!!!
Time is sure slipping away and the winter season will soon be behind us. We have many good programs still coming up this winter including the annual pesticide training. But before we get to all that lets visit a little about the basketball season. It brings back many memories. Back many moons ago, I was still in high school, we played many different schools in basketball. Some of the more memorable games were School for the Deaf playing Hampden in the Ramsey County tournament in Starkweather. A young man (Steve Blehm) scored 80 plus points in that game for School for the Deaf. Not to take anything away from Hampden as they were a good team too, but Steve was just on fire that night from anywhere on the court. I remember playing School for the Deaf the next night and what a dog fight we had. We did manage to win but it was a battle down to the final buzzer. We look around our communities today and find the schools that no longer have a school that we used to play basketball against. Schools like Nekoma, Lawton, Crary, Hampden, St. Marys and Churches Ferry are no longer in existence, as we all know, but those schools sure left some lasting memories in my heart. Which gives me one trivia question to ask: This is for those of you who do not live near this community, where was Dereck located in Ramsey County?
