Howdy!!!!
Who could ever imagine the 4th of July is already hear. When dad planned his sale it seemed many months away and that has already come and gone and so will have the 4th when you read this. Dad and mom’s sale turned out very well, a little hot, but a successful day. The sale went well and so did the good food my family prepared for the day. My oldest nephew cooked polishes and hotdogs throughout the day and served with sauerkraut was a hit. The family all pulled together to get this day off and running and I would personally like to thank each and everyone of them for their part in the sale. Even though I had plenty to do during the sale, I got asked many questions about the horticulture scene and also how the crops were doing. So, it was a business day as usual. I did find many fall canker worms this past week and in one location, had just about totally defoliated the boxelder trees in the farmstead. Nothing to do at this point but next spring we will need to be ready with an insecticide. I feel pretty good about those boxelders putting forth new leaves yet this summer but with the heat we have been getting nothing is for sure.
Make sure you keep your plants and trees watered during this stressful time of the summer. I have been getting phone calls about trees showing stress from the drought and also gardens being stressed.
