Howdy!!!!
What a nice rain we had here in Devils Lake. Every time it rains I get really nervous as someone always gets either too much or not enough as was the case this past Friday night. Areas to the north and the extreme eastern part of the county received very little rain while others received anywhere from .20 to 1.6 inches of rain. It is hard to imagine but areas to the east, east of highway 1 to include Walsh and the northern tier of Nelson counties are in desperate need of rain.
Fathers’ day weekend always brings something special and this last Sunday was no exception. My kids brought food and we entertained an evening supper for my family to include my folks and Deb’s mother. Our special guest for the night was Hudson (grandchild). The little thing has sure won my heart. I did not think that would happen as such a young age, but I have fallen.
On the greener side of things, I have a garden that is on steroids. I have potatoes that are waist high, carrots that are 10 inches tall, tomatoes that have been blooming for 2 weeks and peas that are in high gear blooming. I do not quite know how things are going to turn out as most of the time, as plants grow fast, they sometimes forget to produce fruit. I have also got a really good catch of grass growing in our north lawn. I planted grass a week ago last Thursday and have watered plenty along with the rain. This shows that grass can be grown but lots of attention needs to be in place to water or the ground will dry up and the grass right along with it. The ideal time to plant grass is in the September time frame as the days are cooler and generally fall rains are more plentiful. I have also started talking about the perennials in our flower gardens, on the weekly horticulture radio show. Stay tuned as I talk about growing them.
