Howdy!!!!

Well here we are only a few short weeks from the start of our gardening and farming ventures.  The weather today would not remind you of spring but we really could be farming in 4 weeks.  This past week I got to attend the regional B boy’s games at the Sport Center.  There are some very talented athletes in today’s basketball.  Congratulations to the Four Winds men’s basketball team.  They played very well and should represent our region very well in Bismarck this weekend.  Makes me envious of today’s athletes ability and if I could have only had a little bit of that when I played maybe I would have been better.  One thing that sure has not changed throughout the years is the sportsmanship of fans.  It only takes one or two fans to make a bad image of all the fans in the gym.  This was the case not only in the regional tournaments but also during the regular season.  We have to be reminded that these are high school men and women (doing the best they can) and that we need to cheer them on for the efforts put forth, not to rip the referee, the coach or the opposing team fans but to show respect towards the game itself.

No-Till meeting????

There will be an informal informational no-till meeting on March 27, 9 am, in the Armory.  The interest has been growing by leaps and bounds due to the new innovative seeding equipment being sold through our local dealerships.  We have approached two no-tillers to visit with us that morning.  These no-tillers have been no-tilling for many years in conditions that are very similar to ours, wet and wet.  We will discuss nitrogen placement, residue management, rotation strategies and many other topics.  Even if you aren’t interested in no-till maybe one of the topics might be of interest to you.  This meeting is open to the Lake Region area producers.

Livestock Meeting???

The Walsh County Livestock Improvement Association has an informational meeting planned for March 15, 7 pm, Park River Auditorium.  There has been much concern, as of late, about TB in our deer herds and how that might affect our local cattle herds.  The purpose of this meeting is to inform growers of the TB situation in MN and how TB could be spread or transmitted to our state through the deer herd population or through the cattle herd.  This should be a very good program to not only learn about TB, but to also learn who the partners are and how they might help.  Sponsoring communities are the North Dakota State Veterinarian, State game and fish, local vets and the northeast area Extension Agents.  For more information about this very informational meeting please call the Ramsey County Extension office at 701-662-7027.
