Howdy!!!!
These past few days have been a real drag for me as I have been fighting a bad chest cold. It did however allow me to watch a lot of high school and college basketball. The talent of today’s athletes is something else. I know we had very talented athletes of years past but the moves and shooting is really something today. Hats off to the Four Winds Indians, the media mentioned many of the team members were fighting a sickness bug, but still were able to play at a very high level. Congratulations on your 3rd place finish at the state B tourney. The championship game was a dandy as well. A last second shot to win the game makes for great memories and very sad memories for the losing team.
I was really thrilled with the half time entertainment at the state B tourney this year, from dancing, to ball handling, to gymnastics; they were tremendous. I found myself wanting to stand for a standing ovation at home, for the great performances.
No-Till meeting????
There will be an informal informational no-till meeting on March 27, 9 am, in the Armory. The interest has been growing by leaps and bounds due to the new innovative seeding equipment being sold through our local dealerships. We have approached two no-tillers to visit with us that morning. These no-tillers have been no-tilling for many years in conditions that are very similar to ours, wet and wet. We will discuss nitrogen placement, residue management, rotation strategies and many other topics. Even if you aren’t interested in no-till maybe one of the topics might be of interest to you. This meeting is open to the Lake Region area producers.
“Extreme Makeover”!!!!
We are again offering our “Extreme Makeover” classes this spring starting April 4th. The classes will continue on April 18th, 25th and May 2nd. We will have numerous door prizes to give away again this year. We will visit with Mike Kangas the first night on tree insects and diseases. You will really like Mike and his presentation style; he gets into trees and approaches the subject matter with a very light hearted approach but really knows his stuff. April 18th, Ron Smith will be back to talk to us about gardening (flower and vegetable) in the 21rst century. For those that attended classes last year Ron can make any subject matter useful and entertaining. April 18th finds NDSU Extension’s bug lady (Janet Knodel, NDSU Entomologist) coming to visit about all the different bugs that attack our flowers, vegetables and even the home.
The classes should offer everything you need to know about gardening and being able to take care of any insect that might attack you special flower bed. The “Extreme Makeover” night will be May 2nd. You never know this could take place at your home but you do need to be registered for the classes to be eligible. The night will end with a pot luck supper. I am also planning a flower or bulb exchange during these classes, so stay tuned for further info on that. This class filled up really fast last year with over 65 in attendance. The registration fee is $20 per person or $30 dollars for a couple. There is also a $5 dollar deduction if you attended either the Extreme Makeover class or Landscaping class this past calendar year. So hurry on in to register at the Ramsey County Extension office or call 701-662-7027 to receive a registration form in the mail. “CLASSES ARE APPROACHING FAST SO HURRY ON IN”.
