Howdy!!!
Well, I can say that I did not ask for this rain.  We talked last night and mentioned the rains very similar to this that we used to have back in the 60’s and 70’s, not much rain at one time but over a period of time adds up to an inch.  With all the trials and tribulations of the farming game today we do not need added stress with more water, but speaking of water I can remember sometime in the early 70’s when Dad and I turned the first wheel about June 2nd.  We ran 24 hours and still ended with a pretty decent crop for being so late.  The nice thing was we ended up with very little wild oats as we took care of that flush with the late cultivation.  I can also remember cultivating in a snow storm sometime around May 26th, so you never know what mothernature can spring on us.

Our son and daughter in-law were over last night and were talking about different things and Deb said that I need to remember it is Nurse’s week, Stephanie said I should mention it is also “May is Better Speech Language and Hearing Month” and daughter (Christine, Social Services in Lakota) said it is also Foster Care Month.  You can really tell the kinds of visiting we do in our home, with family, however my daughter in-law said that if I did not include her month she would wait an extra month to have that first Grandchild (just kidding!!!!).

Garden Tour!!!
I have room for 4 more folks for the Garden Tour, I am providing on Sunday May 7th.  We will leave (via a bus) on the east side of the court house about 12:30 and should return approximately 6:30.  I am using the tour to visit the water displays at the Plant Ranch, in Pekin and Lundeby Tree Farm in Tolna.  I have had many requests to visit some different water displays and these two were offered to me.  You will have time to browse around the nurseries.  It will also be a great time to enjoy your friends on a short Sunday afternoon stroll.  There is a $10 registration fee to cover the rental of the bus. To register call the office at 662-7030 or stop by.  I do need to have your monies to reserve a spot for you.

Horticulture and Farm radio programs!!!
We are starting with both of these radio programs this week.  The horticulture programs will air in the mornings on KDLR and KDVL and the farm program will air at the closing market comments around 1:30.  Stay tuned for up to date information in the horticulture world and information in the farming community to enhance your decision making process.
