Howdy!!!

Deer hunting got to a bang last weekend as I was watching the news on T.V. and saw a house in the Crookston area with holes in different walls.  I can remember a few years back when my folks had a hole shot into their home.  I would like to remind hunters to be safe hunters while afield.

This past weekend I decided to blind hunt, one evening.  I found an area, with permission, and waited for the deer to come alive for the evening meal.  It did not take long and deer were moving about.  The first deer to be within shooting range was a little fawn and watching her as she learned the experience of human scent was fascinating.  The fawn would stomp her feet, snort a little and then run off to do the same thing a little further away.  I did not care to shoot a deer that night as I had other fawn do the same with the same results.  The only mistake I made, that night, was I wished I had had a video camera along.  As I watched the young deer make mistakes that night and learn from those mistakes reminds me of many different occasions in our own lives.  Whether it be a farmer, a business owner, a parent or even a sport enthusiast there are things we can learn from one another or from an educational program that can enhance our every day living.  Once such a night, coming up on Thursday, November 16th, is “Farmers Night Out”.  This night is designed to show appreciation for everything the producers of the lake region area have done for our local businesses.  The best part is to share that learning experience from one another during the meal or after the night is over.  Another such a night is “Ranchers Night Out”.  The shared meal of Rocky Mountain oysters and Chili and the topics of Cow Nutrition and Swath grazing will surely enhance your learning curve and could even add value to your own farm or ranch.

These next few weeks are going to be very busy for me as I not only have these events going on but also a daughters wedding taking place.  Our house has been in a turmoil for about a month now getting ready for the big night.  My future son-in-law wonders why the big deal but then only my daughter could relay that message.  It was also another big weekend for us as our Grandson received baptism.  It is really fun watch these new young adults enter this world and get adjusted to the huge learning curve in front of them.  It amazes how they change weekly at that age and what they learn.
