Howdy!!!!
Well, I made it through the weekend. My feet are very sore and my
pocketbook very empty. Al will be a great addition to our family and his
friends from England, South Africa and Australia made for a very interesting 5
days. I am very glad they are leaving as I am running out of energy and they
aren’t. It was also very fun to meet Al’s sister. She is a very fun person
with a pile of energy and can really book when it comes to talking. Many times
I had to tell her to slow down. Weddings, as usual, make for a great time to
visit with old and new friends. I cherish them all and look forward to getting
together again sometime down the road. I even made it through the wedding with
out too many tears. I am a very tear full person and when my daughter-in-law
(Stephanie) and Deb’s cousin (Wayne) sang the “Prayer”, I sobbed through the
whole thing, even Father was touched by the wonderful job they did. I did want
to clap for them but did not think that might be appropriate at the wedding. I
had better get on to my topics for today but wanted to mention this weekend as
even though many good laughs were had, I still had conversations that talked
about he Ag. sector. We never have a location or time where we can’t learn
something from someone. The Englander farms and talked about his organic farm.
His farm size is 320 acres, milks 40 plus cows and also has a few sheep. They
grow the same kinds of crops that we do with the exception there soil is a
little different, being able to grow wheat in the 120-135 bushel area. Pete
farms the family farm with his father, brother and himself. He said farming has
been very profitable for the three of them but with the added input costs an
additional 150 acres are needed to keep the farm healthy for all three
families. He also mentioned that gas prices are in the neighborhood of $9.00
per gallon. They use metric in England so the conversion to American works out
to the $9.
“Ranchers Night Out”
“Come one, Come all Ranchers” to the Ranchers Night Out planned for this
Thursday, November 30th. The night will start at 6 pm with supper
followed by the program at 7 pm. Supper will consist of Rocky mountain oysters
and Chili for those that don’t like to gamble. The program will be Cow
Nutrition and Swath Grazing. We will also have 112 head of calves on display
that are enrolled in the Feed Out being held at the Carrington Research Center.
These calves come from producers around the state and are entered in 6 head
lots. These calves will be on display from about 2 PM until the program starts
