Howdy!!!

What a weekend!!!!  The weather turned out fabulous.  EVEN got some things done in the house, like installing a new floor, instead of being outside to enjoy the weather.  If the weather holds I should be able to get my x-mas decorations up.  I hope everyone got most of their outdoor jobs done this fall.  The water lines drained, gardens cleaned and tilled, water gutters cleaned, perennials ready for the winter season and last but not least of many other activities, trees, shrubs, arborvitae all watered, well.  This past weekend I had the opportunity to meet many foreign farmers working here in the lake region area from many different countries, New Zeeland, Africa and Germany.  We had a great time and as always learn many different things from producers of other countries.  I guess what I am trying to say is winter programming is coming and learning new ideas or brushing up on old ideas can increase your bottom line significantly.  The saving of $2-3 per acre does not seem like much but when multiplied over many acres leaves money to help with other expenses.  We do have such opportunities coming up with Ranchers Night Out, Round-Up to name a few of the programming ideas coming up.  We are also working on a corn day, sometime in February.

But we do have to get ready for another great time of year and that is deer hunting.  I know everyone is waiting for that 30 point buck and wished everyone the best of luck but as an experience that happened to my son last Friday would indicate we also need to be working on the doe population as well.  Just yesterday I say a doe that had been struck by a vehicle with parts lying all over. Costs of repairs are tremendous today not to mention any health issues that arrive from hitting these animals at speeds in excess of 30 miles an hour.  The other issue that also comes into play is the amount of crop being eaten by the hungry monsters throughout the growing season.

I do need to run as fall conference in Fargo is calling.
