Howdy!!!
Sure sounds like the weather might turn a little sour on Wednesday, but then
that is to be expected this time of year. What a hurricane force winds we had
this past weekend. I needed to make a delivery to the field on Saturday night
and driving north past the Old St. Benedict church I noticed a bright orange
glow in the sky, to the north. I call my mother to make sure everything was
o.k. at the home front and she filled me in on the wildlife land burning to the
north. I drove up to inspect and wow, what a wind but surprisingly the fire
burned slower across the prairie than I thought it would given the wind gusts,
for that evening. Luckily no one got hurt or lost property in this fire but we
did lose valuable soil cover. It seems minor but when traveling by good cover
during a snow storm you would know what I mean. The one fire definitely looked
like it was set intentionally.
I am a little surprised by the no response on the durum triangle coordinate communities. I was sure I would have had a house full of responses. THE communities that make up the triangle points are Cando, Carrington and ?. I will give the last community next week in my column.
It is also that time of year to be cleaning up all the leaves and getting the gardens ready for next year’s production. If you would like to have your garden soil sampled, we have the equipment for you to do your soil sampling. We also have the bags and information available for you to send in your soil samples. I do not offer my service for that task as it is very easy for anyone to do. If you would like me to give you suggestions on nutrient requirements, based on your soil results, I can do that but you do need to bring me a copy of your results as I do not get a copy of them. Proper nutrient placement can mean the difference between that extra cucumber or tomato. So give us a call to see if the equipment has returned for you to use next, at 701-662-7027.
