Howdy!!!
I am writing this article a little early as I will not be in the office this week.  If you heed to have help with something please call our office at 662-7027 and Cindy will direct you to a neighboring agent who has agreed to help me out for this week.  I have a trivia question for the week.  My nephew asked me a question about the corners of the durum triangle.  If we drew a picture of a triangle what towns would make the points of the durum triangle.  If you think you know the answer give me a call on my phone (701-662-7030) and leave a message.  I will buy the first one with the correct answer a pop.  It will come up on my answering machine the time of day and day of the week so no cheating can take place.  Another interesting thing I learned this week is: did you know that 2.7 gallons of ethanol can be produced using one bushel of corn. The state average for corn in Iowa is what based on the fact that 450 gallons of ethanol can be produced from one acre.  Another little trivia thing is: if the ethanol industry could produce ethanol from corn stover, using 25% of the stover, another 125 gallons of ethanol could be produced making a grand total of 575 gallons of ethanol per acre. That number seems kind of weird but those are numbers given to me at a conference I attended on Tuesday.

If anyone has any energy left after this fall harvest please give me a call as I am running out of energy on this new project in my back yard.  I figured I have my fish pond, water falls and river about 50% done to this point.  If I figured my labor into this equation, using 10 dollars an hour, I will probably have about 2500-3000 dollars of labor into this back yard dream.  Oh well, who cares about the pay as long as it works when I get done, Deb is a little concerned, of it working, along with my neighbors.

I have had many tree concerns this fall and the best I can tell you is to wait until next spring and stay tuned to the column and radio shows I do.  I will keep everyone posted as to the proper timing of any insecticide application that needs to be made, to help protect your trees.
