Howdy!!!

Well here we are, WINTER>?”  We all know it is coming but sure do not like it, although the temperatures are not so bad.  As I write this, the weather man is talking about bad weather tonight and tomorrow.  That will be the next thing 1996-1997 all over again.  I can remember driving bus that winter.  We would send the buses out and get to our furthest point and get called in after we would tunnel our way through those bad roads.  There was snow piled up higher than the mirrors of the bus and in some cases east of Hampden the snow would touch the mirror.  That was a terrible winter to drive bus or anything else for that matter.  Hopefully that will not happen again.  The other storm that brings back many memories is the 1966 storm.  That was another dusy!!!!!!!

Last week we held our annual Ranchers’ Night Out.  What a cold night for a Rocky Mountain Oyster party.  We served about a 1/3 less producers than last year but with the cold wind blowing how can you blame anyone.  I want to take my hat off to three different groups for that night.  The first would be Jim AND Mary Zeigler.  They operate a first class business at Lake Region Livestock and their hospitality is first class.  To open their doors and try to keep us all warm for the evening was super.  Thanks again Jim and Mary.  I would also like to say a big thanks to Butch for his great help in getting our Eastern Feedout cattle sorted and loaded for the journey to Carrington.  He is always willing to lend that extra hand and has gone above and beyond the call of duty for us.  The last group I would like to thank is my co-workers.  Without their help this night would not take place.  They are tremendous colleagues and co-workers.  It is fun to watch a group get together and pull something off, even if it is cooking Rocky Mountain Oysters.  One last note for this week is the Lake Region Extension Roundup programs just arrived so if you are interested stop by and pick one or two or three or four.

I must admit I love this time of year.  As we all get ready for the Christmas season I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a safe and joyous ending year.  With the holiday season upon taking those extra precautions, to prevent fires, will go a long way towards a joyous season.  Just the other day we received a Christmas card from a young family playing hockey in Germany.  I know one thing for sure and that being I cannot read German but sure do enjoy there visit with us through mail.  They have a little one that has as much energy as our little grandson.  Either I am getting too old or energy has taken on a new meaning.  I suppose I had better get in better shape as we get ready for the next grandchild, only a short 6 months away.
