Howdy!!!

I, along with the Journal are changing our approach for my weekly news column publishing dates.  You will find this article on the Ag page every week which will be strictly ag focused.  My normal article will be published every Thursday, so watch for the changes.

Just a week away is Lake Region Extension Roundup, (Tuesday, January 8 and Wednesday, January 9).  As usual it is full of hot topics to include anything from Livestock topics to cropping topics to topics of non related ag.  Tuesday starts out with breakfast sponsored by Bayer CropScience, Dupont, BASF, AgroSciences, Monsanto, Feist Soil Testing Lab, Bremer Bank, Lake Region Grain Co-op.  Breakfast starts at 8 am with general sessions to start at 9 am.  There are many topics the first day to included: Profitable Phosphorus Use, Oilseed Market Outlook for 2008, 2007 Small grain Variety Performance, Basics of Strip Till, What to know about 2007 Census of Agriculture, Issues facing Rail Transportation, Sunflower discussions, Land Costs, The Sneaky Chefs, Utilizing local feeds, Building economic rations,  Managing Foxtail Barley in Pastures and farmland, Farm Bill discussion and What’s bugging our trees.  This in only a short listing of the topics covered the first day and you will certainly find other topics of interest that have not been included.  The first break is sponsored by Lange Supply and Richard Sager Crop Insurance.  The noon lunch is sponsored by the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce. The afternoon break is sponsored by Radio Works Lake Region.  The day will conclude approximately 5 pm.

The second day has just as many opportunities to listen to various speakers on many hot topics.  The day starts out again with breakfast sponsored by Feist Soil Testing, Lake Region Grain, Monsanto, Bremer Bank, Bayer CropScience, Dupont, BASF, and Dow AgroSciences. Breakfast starts at 8 am.  General sessions start at 9 am on Wednesday and like the first day some topics included are; Barley topics, Managing Corn GMO traits, 2007 Canola production problems, Small grain overview, Dry Bean update, Crop Price Protection, Positive aging, Feed Testing, Developing water systems for pastures, Nitrogen costs, Strip Till and Upper Devils Lake Basin Water Utilization report.  Lunch is sponsored by the Crop Improvement associations of Ramsey, Benson, Towner, Rolette, Cavalier, Nelson.  The afternoon break is sponsored by Ag Country Farm Credit Services of Devils Lake.

I have listed a very brief outline of the two day extravaganza and am very confident you will find the Lake Region Extension Roundup informative and a good time to meet up with neighbors for coffee.  As usual you will have many opportunities to visit with all of the companies that are part of the two day event.
