Howdy!!!
Shiverfest was the appropriate title for last weekend. For me the temperature was something normal but I sure heard many negative comments about the cold temperatures. We just need to be reminded that this is North Dakota and we will continue with winter time temperatures falling below zero for a period of time. How many of you ventured out to check out Shiverfest this past weekend. I did and was amazed how much time is put into a quilt. This looks like a project that I will never venture. The kites were also cool too, maybe not as many as last year but still relaxing to watch.
I did notice that only a couple of readers noticed my mistake, in last week’s article. Baltimore Colts no longer exist. That franchise changed communities sometime back in the 80’s, I think.
Once a month my family relatives meet for coffee. They meet the first Saturday of the month and sometimes can last for a couple of hours. I do try to attend the bull session as there never seems to be coffee session without something learned. We talk about horticulture, livestock, crops and just plain bull. This last meeting was just like all others of things learned. The first, being a way to thaw water lines. There is another way that does not use hot water or steam to do this hated job but I will not mention how, in the article, so no one tries without proper supervision. The other question was; can we use the water from a dehumidifier from our furnace for our house plants. The answer is yes. Just a note to remember, the water from a dehumidifier could be a place from bacteria to start if not used frequently, do periodically wash the water holding container with soap and water but make sure you rinse it thoroughly. See what I mean about coffee breaks.
The corn meeting, that was held here last Thursday, was very well attended. We served 80 producers and the fun part was many stuck around after the meeting to visit more. I would like to thank North Dakota Corn Growers for their sponsorship of the day, which included food and corn nuts. A great big THANKS goes to Cindy and Rebecca for their fabulous prepared dinner and coffee break muffins. So many positive comments from everyone, on the food. GREAT JOB YOUNG LADIES.
