Howdy!!!
What a beautiful day in the neighborhood!!!!  The last three weeks seemed a little cold but then we do live in North Dakota.  This warm spell does wake up the brain for the spring season as folks are already talking that way.  “Any gardening classes coming up this spring or what to do you think most producers are going to plant this spring.  Those are just a few of the discussion topics that have arisen along with are we going to get a snow storm this spring.  I see the weatherman is talking about a big storm somewhere across the Midwest for this weekend but seems uncertain of the path.  As I listened to the forecast and the chance of a storm, brought back memories of 1996-1997.  What a winter for storms: shovel snow every morning to feed cattle, maneuver a school bus around snowed in yards, with enough room to turn a 4-wheeler around instead of a bus, county roads, in the Hampden area, that had snow pushed up on the sides high enough that the snow would at times be higher than the bus and last but not least getting stormed in a gym after a high school basketball game.  It all seems trivial at this point but eventful weather can cause many of us to lose our senses and venture out in the real world when we should have stayed at home.  I can also remember the storm of 1966 when dad and I headed for the barn, it seemed there was a break, in the weather, and animals needed attention as it had been a couple of days of not even seeing the barn.  We journeyed north that evening and about half way there we found ourselves headed more away from the barn than too the barn as we finally heard the tin on the barn rattle and discovered it was to our left and rear.  Another thing I remember about that storm was having to roll down into the barn through the front door as the snow was piled over the barns in places.  I also remember all the snow moving we had to do just to find enough room to feed the livestock.  Remarkably no animals were lost in this storm.

Marketing meeting!!!
Just a reminder of the marketing meeting being held this coming Friday, February 23rd.  It will be held in the K.C. hall and will start at 9:30 am with coffee.  Edward Usset (University of Minnesota) will be our featured presenter talking about pre-harvest marketing.  Those producers that attended last years meeting found Ed very enlightening and said they would like to hear him again.  Last years meeting focused on post-harvest marketing.  The local lenders, along with the Ramsey County Crop Improvement association will be sponsoring coffee and rolls along with a noon lunch.  Lunch will feature a menu for the lent season along with the old standbys of vegetable beef soup and sandwiches.
