Howdy!!!!
Sorry I missed last week’s addition to the papers. As the commodity markets
continue to push crop planting intentions, I needed to attend a workshop in
Fargo last Tuesday. I was really glad that I was able to attend but did miss
getting my column out for you to read. This past two weeks has also been a very
busy time for us in the office, as well. Even though we are a long ways away,
from spring, we need to be planning our programming for the upcoming spring
season. I can’t imagine, we are only 3 months away from me working on my water
project again. I have been thinking about the wants and don’ts in my back yard
and have already come up with a few precautions. The biggest one being, Grandma
would like to put up a play station area and of course Grandpa says “yes dear”.
We were talking about it, just yesterday, and did come up with a problem. With
this fish pond being complete our Grandchildren will probably need to be wearing
life jackets, when they play in the back yard. We do have our back yard fenced
in, so that does eliminate one thing to worry about. I do have a hunch that
some won’t like the fact they will need to be wearing a life jacket, unless
Grandpa can come up with another scheme. I have had many thoughts dealing with
the “what to do with the surrounding area, once the water project is completed.
Flowers to plant, grass to plant, sprinkler system to install, lounging area
(within the area of the water project) to just name a few things to think
about.
With that, in mind, we do have a Horticulture Saturday coming up on March 17th. We have a day planned to bring all types of homeowners together for the one day fun fest. We will also be serving a noon lunch, that day, along with coffee and goodies. There will be a registration fee to help defray the costs of speakers, lunch and materials. So hurry on in and get signed up for that day, Saturday, March 17th.
Corn meeting planned??????
We have planned a corn meeting for Devils Lake (Memorial building) February
8th. The day will start with coffee and goodies. At 9 am we will
get into the guts of the program. With corn prices reaching new highs, almost
daily, we thought a corn information day was needed. These prices will drive
planting intentions and thus the need for corn planting, corn growing, corn
harvesting and most importantly the handling of the volume of product
information day. We will have a full day planned starting at 8:30 and should be
concluded by 2:30. The day will end with a Producer panel discussing the
lessons learned in handling corn.
We will have a noon lunch provided by the North Dakota Corn Growers. For more information contact your local Extension office or you can give me a call (701-662-7030) or stop by. We do have posters hanging around the Lake Region area.
