Howdy!!!
How about this weather!!!!! We were starting to get a little dry in places and
received a little rain just about at the right time, unfortunately some us
received either too much rain or way too much wind. Some of the crops took a
beating and so did the trees in the Devils Lake area. I have unconfirmed
reports of not much strong winds in the northern tear of the county but we
certainly received plenty in the southern part of the county. Oh boy, have I
received many phone calls from ag producers and home owners over the problems
associated with the high winds from the past storm. Luckily most crops will
bounce back very nicely but the trees that were lost usually created some big
headaches. Those trees that were lost in general were the more shallow rooted
trees or tree branches from older trees. No matter the case damage was done. I
did however sleep right through the whole business. I do have a weather monitor
in our home and was very surprised that it did not send us through the bedroom
ceiling during the stormy weather only to find out the next morning we had been
without electricity sometime and changed our clocks but forgot to check this
machine. Maybe we were lucky or maybe we need to be more careful the next
time. If any of you have one of these weather alert systems you know what I
mean about sending you through the ceiling when it sends its alarm. One last
note for this week and that being harvest is fast approaching and upon traveling
around the county make sure to allow space for all harvest equipment. This is a
very busy time of year for area producers and even no excuses can be had care
does need to be taken, by not only you but also the operator of the equipment.
With the new crops entering the ag. sector of Ramsey county, harvest means
something from the first of August into the month of December. One more note is
the garden harvest has started for many. We have eaten potatoes, peas,
cucumbers, carrots, beans and beets. Everything always tastes so good fresh
from the garden. Remember to look for the area markets that will be featuring
your favorite vegetable.
