Howdy!!!!
What in the world ever happened to spring and early summer???? As we look around the country side; crops are maturing way to fast for my mind and Potatoes are being eaten out of my garden, which seems about a month too early. Oh well we are at the month where temperatures can rise, winter wheat can be harvested (in our area) and the gardens start sharing their harvest with us. The fourth of July is on Wednesday and I wish everyone the best of the celebration and as always use extreme care when celebrating our Independence.
I would like to thank all of you that attended our Ramsey and Ramsey/Towner Achievement days. It is amazing watching young 4-Her’s present their hard work for the year and especially when asked questions about their project during interview judging. I interview judged the Cass fair several years ago and really enjoyed doing such. It is very easy to tell what kids did their own work and which parents did the work for the kids. One young lady had taken several pictures of herself playing with her dog. Upon asking the usual questions I found out that she had not done any of her projects as she was too busy watching T.V. Usually at the end of the interview I ask the kids what color of ribbon they think they deserve and this young lady told me a white ribbon, instead of a red or blue. I asked her why and she told me that she did not do her own project and that mom had made her do it for the premium money. Honesty always gets my heart with young kids and I give her a red ribbon for being so honest. Back to the achievement days, I would also like to thank all of those that helped for setup and take down of the livestock days, at the Bill Jerome. Great help makes everything go much smoother. I would also like to thank the Kevin Fieldson and the county crew for supplying sand for the show and Terry Wallace and the Park Board for allowing us to use the Bill Jerome for our days... That building brings back many memories for me, when I was that age in 4-H.
One last note, as I drive around and look at the different crops including our yards, I cannot believe how much we have dried out from the spring rains. Don’t get me wrong, we still have places that have plenty of water and wet soils but we also have areas that could use another shot of rain, including my yard. How can that much rain disappear that fast, is amazing.
