Howdy!!!!
Well what a spring this has turned out to be!!! Although we did have some very nice weather over the weekend, to include hot if you were mowing, I really hate to say this but moisture in moderation would be good. We need to get spring planting finished and those fields are wet. I sat in a tractor on Saturday and the tractor did plenty of spinning. The forecast for us does not sound good for the next couple of days, precipitation wise. These warm days made the crop grow like they were on steroids, almost to the point of hearing the plant grow.
What about all the activity in Devils Lake this past weekend. Relay for life had their spectacular. If you have never been part of or contributed too you are really missing out. There is a tremendous amount of time that goes into this event and I would like to thank the volunteers for all of their hard work. I was told by one that it is not hard work as it is for a good cause and is already looking forward to next years’ event. The miles walked and the comaderie formed will be cherished for a life time. The FLW finals were held on Saturday. I did not hear exactly the three day pounds for the winner but something 63 I think. There was a lot of money in town with all of those big boats. And of course the big lake brings people to town from around the country. The boat landings got a workout this past weekend.
Our Grandson got his first experience in the water on Sunday and I looks like he will make a fisherman. He was not happy when the time came to go home. I think he even wore his lifejacket home. He thought that was pretty cool.
Yellow headed Sawfly?????
The yellowheaded Sawfly was found this past week in spruce trees around the
area. This little worm it two toned green and if approached something will
position itself in an S-shaped style. This little monster can do severe damage
to spruce trees if left unchecked. This pest needs 800 plus growing degree days
to arrive and we reached that goal last week as evidence of the emergence of
this pest. Tempo or Malathion do a good job of eliminating this insect. If you
are making an application of Chlorothalonil to your trees and insecticide could
be added for this application. If you are unsure of the extent of your problem
please don’t hesitate to give me a call at 701-662-7030. I will not be the
office most of this week but can be reached on my cell phone, which is on my
voice mail.
