Howdy!!!!
Rain, rain and more rain!!!!!!! What is normal????  I can remember thunderstorms that would come rumbling through, back in the old days, and if we got an inch of rain was quite a storm.  Now days a storm comes through and it seems anything under 8-10 inches is the norm.  I am not sure if this is called global warming or man induced or mother nature getting even with us or what ever but what ever the case, rain in moderation would be good.  I was however pleasantly surprised how much water made it through the soil structure.  Sure we had water run but with 4-5 inches of water to the north our ground made good use of the extra rain, surprisingly.  THEN, TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, “FROST”.  I had been preaching for a long time of the average frost date for our area and wham oh, two nights of cool weather.  My garden survived both nights of frost but neighbors and especially the northern teer of the county had a hard frost in places.    Crops react differently to frost at different stages and hopefully not many beans had emerged at this point.  Corn and small grains are more adapt at recovering from a frost but beans and Canola have a bit more of a problem.  Canola is fairly tough too, but depends on the stage of the plant and also how cold it gets and for how long.  I had a friend from the Edmore area tell me that on their way home from Devils Lake, Saturday night, his temperature reading in his vehicle said 34 degrees about 11 pm.

I read the report from the Devils Lake basin report this morning and it looks that Devils Lake did rise about 3 tenths of a foot with Stump lake reaching a level of 1446.39, as of May 28th, Devils Lake is presently at 1447.72.  The flow into Stump is presently at 227 cfs compared to last week of 170 cfs.  We lucked out last night by having the heavier rain move more to the Nelson County through Walsh County.
