Howdy!!!
What a beautiful weekend in September!!!! I can not believe that this month is already half over. I enjoyed the days with two great days of fishing and working in our yard. Fishing was very good and working in our yard is work, so you know which one I enjoyed the most. Last Friday night I destroyed my tomatoes as the thought of frost did not appeal to me much so thought I might as well speed the process up. When the dust settled I think the only part of the county that had frost was the northern tier. I have not an official temperature reading but was told that the ground was white and the corn is now white. This wind this past week was also another pain. My water feature was working very nicely and when I came home on Friday night noticed the pond was nearly empty of water. I have a fountain head in one end of the pond that sprays water about 4 feet in the air and as the wind blew so did the water away from the pond on the nearby trees. So, guess what, the pond emptied itself with the wind effect of the day.
This past Saturday volunteers helped work the Ramsey County Fair board property west of town. We hung gates, laid landscape timber, shoveled rocks, painted, tilled the inside area, moved rocks, moved fences and most importantly all worked together for the morning. I would like to thank all of you for working together to make our property a better place to be. I would also like to thank the county for the use of their truck to haul crushed rock for the project, Connie Hanson for their garden tiller, Rodney Brown for his little ford tractor and post hole digger, Roy Kenner for his loader tractor and again thanks to all of you that helped. We did not get done but did make a great big dent with the projects that needed to get done.
The bean harvest is underway and along with that comes machinery moving down the road. Give everyone a chance and slow down when approaching any equipment on the highway or gravel roads. We are all an integral part of a community and need all of you to continue to be a part of this community and that would mean no road accidents from carelessness on the road.
One last note and that being the harvest our producers are harvesting. I have been talking to many people that are envious of our farmers, with these high commodity prices. People in general are all the same and that is we hear something really good and forget about what it took to get to this point. First off inputs are at an all time high and moving higher, U.S. dollar is weakening, and there are pockets in our community and around the world that did not have a bountiful harvest (from either too much heat during flowering, dry conditions, or hail storms). When the dust settles we are going to be very fortunate to have the prices we see to help alleviate those problems just discussed. Could you imagine double and triple input costs and commodity prices we saw the last several years????????????????????
