Howdy!!!!!

I really am getting to the point of asking for rain anymore as something bad seems to happen.  This time we did just what was asked for except the cold weather and snow that accompanied this past storm.  I like warm weather and this last cold snap seemed really cold to me.  No matter the case it is time to be thinking of the garden season.  This last growing season has got me interested in funny growing spruce, pine, conifers and arborvitae.  A couple of years ago we visited Fred Lundeby’s home (Tolna) and saw some very interesting and different growing spruce, with that in mind, I have been searching for different growing trees and shrubs for my yard.  I neither am advertising for anyone nor am suggesting but Lundeby tree farm had grown a very low growing spruce that I am looking for and needless to say most unique trees are hard to find for the average person.  I was able to find a nursery out of state that does handle this particular tree and has a couple of distributors in state, so my next project is to find those retailers and see if they have them available.  I have also witnessed perennials showing themselves in my yard this spring.  I have also witnessed some of those perennials wishing they would not have shown themselves as I do not like plants that do not stay where they are put and some of these are moving way more this spring than anytime in the last three years.  Speaking of something new my yard, I have never been a fan of Hosta’s and now own 22 different species.  If you have any Hosta’s you would like to share with me and remember the names of them, I am interested.

I might mention that my three time a week radio show is back up and running.  It is aired on KDLR on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s.  I will try to keep you current with things that we need to be doing, whether it is an insect, a fungicide application or fertilizing, to any other gardening event so stay tuned.  This week I will have been talking on landscaping and tree planting as that is the hottest topic this time of year.  I will continue to also mention hot topics in the local newspaper.

You never know I might even be a grandpa sooner than we think.  I know I have mentioned this before but those grandchildren are sure fun to have around and the best part is, after they have created enough trouble you can send them home.  But when the dust settles they are always welcome.  Our little Grandson likes outside so well and last week Grandma bought him his own gardening tools.  Boy did he think that was fun.
