Howdy!!!

This past weeks’ weather has been something that reminds me of the old days.  I do not remember the year but some year in the 80’s there were like 40+ days in a row of temperatures below 0 with most days -20 degrees.  I remember starting the old John Deere tractor and have it complain to me that it was too cold to run today.  The cows would be huddled up against anything that would resemble warmth even after being fed.  I think it was about a year or two later I added an insulated addition to my barn for calving.  Those cows liked the experience of early mother hood as they were able to stay in the barn for a period of days.  Probably the worst dreaded fear was checking the water fountains to see if, by some fat chance, they were not froze up.  I had two fountains that behaved very good through that weather but I had one fountain that tried my patience every single day.  You know as I look back on the cattle and the extra chores they can create, I really do miss the cows even if it meant feeding in sub zero weather.  The beauty of the whole thing is each day that is miserable means we are one day closer to a nice day.

This past weekend found some very miserable weather to say the least and that must mean I am getting a little older and do not like that type of weather.  Point being said, we were out to a brother-in laws place to watch the super bowl and their kids are turning into young adults was to fast.  I think they should still be babies, but knowing they do grow and mature like our little Grandson, Hudson.  We look over time how things have changed I can not even imagine how anybody born in the teens would have thought what our world would have looked like 90 years later.  Hudson reminded us of that just the other night of the things that he is able to do that I do not remember any of our kids doing and thinking of doing.  Mischievous is really not the word but probably inquisitive is probably the better word.  Needs to know what stuff is.

We look across the world and how the world has changed.  We Americans have entered the world progression to the point of helping other countries fend for themselves in the production of food, which should mean a better food supply but if we were to have a dry weather phenomenon this year we could be faced with an embargo like what happened back in the 80’s.  Time will tell.

One last comment and that being our youngest son and his fiancée traveled to Germany to visit friends they have mentioned even though much slower paced and of course much less people/population, there is nothing like “Good Old North Dakota”.  He was amazed by the mannerism in which they did things and “oh my goodness for bikes”, they were everywhere.  Does that mean we might be like that someday?  How times change who knows.
