Howdy!!!
It seems I open this column each week with a weather comment and this will be not exception. I must be wishing into the wind for something as I have made comments that don’t mind the cold, as long as the wind does not blow, but this mild weather really makes me dislike anything less than we are having at the present.
I was watching a game show last night and it never ceases to amaze me how “greedy” people are. A married couple were playing the game and both in college. The comment was made that money was tight as they were living on new love and student loans, but yet when a huge amount of money was offered to them, they refused it and moved on for something considerably less. I have always wished for something more than what I have but have come to realize that will probably never happen but when we stop and look at life in general we have the most prized position possible and that being able to live in a world beauty and great people. We can all grumble at times but if we step back and look around us things are good. Just think what parts of the world wake up to every single day. I am in the process of reading a book entitled “Encouraging the Heart” by James Kouzes and Barry Posner. This book talks about, something we find it very hard to say, thanks for the great job done or as the book title says “Encourage the Heart”. I watched the news this morning like all other mornings and it seems we live for and strive for something bad in someone’s life. I sometimes wonder what would happen if we heard less of who broke into a business or who is on the run from the law or what war we are facing today if life might not be better.
Let’s try encouraging someone for something new and try less to find something bad in what somebody does. My challenge to you today is during your morning coffee with your friends listen to how many times people say thanks and then listen to how many times the words are brought up about the trouble someone had. You will be amazed as I am willing to bet you will not hear a word of praise from anyone.
