Howdy!!!

Oh how time fly’s by!!!  I am writing this column as we are drawing near to the conclusion of another Lake Region Extension Roundup.  I know times have gone fast and as we get older we find it easier to stay at home.   The staying home came evident this year when my father did not make the annual trip this year.  Dad has been a faithful follower of Roundup since its inception back in the 80’s.  I was also called a rookie at this event this year but came to realize that except for 2 years in the middle, I have also not missed any yearly events.  It is such a great time to not only learn new ideas but the comradery of friends and neighbors is great to see.  Just last night Deb and I went out for a bite and found producers sitting around a table from many different regions to include producers from out at the Rugby area all the way to Grand Forks.

As I write this article the sun is shining so bright and the day is so beautiful it is very hard to be inside.  Except for the cold snap we had around Christmas we have been blessed with a very nice fall and winter.  This is not only good for us and our heat bill but also good for livestock producer.  Takes less feed and food to keep us running.

One of the topics I covered at Roundup included what is bugging our trees.  We had great participation from home owners, mostly rural home owners, with questions coming about as fast as we could talk.  There was much discussion on what trees should be plant for the coming season and years to come.  We will be holding our second annual gardening Saturday in April and will cover more of that topic, but was great to see so many coming to the session.

Time to sign off as Roundup is still in session and my help is needed around the buildings.  It has been fun and great to see all of you and hopefully see more of you in the near future.  I would also like to say hi to my friends in Germany as I am sure will be seeing soon.
