Howdy!!!
The weather outside is shining and a little cool but still spring is here. I speak with tongue in cheek but as of right now it looks like spring runoff will be at a minimum. The low spots that hold water in my neighborhood are dry and the snow is disappearing very quickly. With spring also comes the spring flight migration of snow geese. It is such a fun time of year to watch the migration, the new birds arriving and all of us as most of us start our yearly walking. There are some diehards but generally most of us start at the sign of spring thaw.
I sent in an order yesterday for some very interesting plants. They are all zone 5 or later but thought they would be a fun addition to my yard during the months of July and August. As we prepare for our spring planting, we need to make sure we plant and populate plants in their proper setting. As we all know sun plants need to be on the south side of the house to perform to the maximum of their ability. I have found an arborvitae that should do very nicely, in our climate. It grows very tall and is very tolerant to sun scald or sun burn. I plan on planting a couple of them in my back yard where the sun can really beat down so we will see how they do.
There are many things to talk about today but there will be some hot topics that are coming soon. An example will be when we treat our apple trees and Mountain ash to help alleviate the problem of fire blight and apple scab. The is only a couple that I have mentioned and there are many more we need to pay attention to this spring. If you continue to read the papers and listen to the radio as I will be starting my weekly Horticulture show in about two weeks. I will keep you posted to the timeliness of making those fungicide applications along with many other timely topics.
