Howdy!!!
Here we are a little sun, a little rain and a lot of cold. Even though the temperatures rose very nice, in the mid afternoon, the average temps. are still pretty cool. Too cool to plant our annuals outside? With our average frost date of May 20th I would say it is too early to plant. My wife has gotten the bug to plant annuals too and of course we need to have a conversation about that as well as I am also in mood to plant. I am in the process of redoing our perennial beds and with the sound advice FROM Finley, we are going to add compost to our perennial beds. I was actually going to get after that project but thought I would give Finley credit. He and his wife are good neighbors although he gets a little feisty at times. He mentioned that their yard and our yard will be in the garden tour next summer, not this summer. Man, do I have a pile of work to do to get ready for that. I have learned some valuable lessons this spring about our water feature. The first and foremost is to cover it up in fall with something to keep leaves out of it. Deb has spent more time than I, but still took three days to get the leaves and other belongings out of it. We should have it up and running by the weekend.
I am planning a garden tour of yards this spring, along the Sheyenne River. I have two yards lined up so far and working on two more and am thinking that should not be a problem. The date for the tour will be Sunday, June 22. We will leave Devils Lake about 10 am. and should return between 5-6 in the afternoon. I know leaving early interferes with church but finding a time that works for everyone involved, including a bus, left no other choices. There will be a $20 charge, per person, to cover rent and fuel for the bus and a snack lunch. If you are interested in joining this trip you need to register in our office, with a deposit, to hold your seat on the bus. This will be a first come first serve basis until we reach the limit of the bus, of 25 people. This should be a very interesting day with many different looks. This will be a little early to see full bloom, but I am more interested in seeing gardens, before the real bloom, of the beauty each plant provides the garden. We will be visiting on the bus about different strategies of gardening so if you are interested in joining our tour stop by our office. I can be reached at 701-662-7030 or 701-662-7027 for more information. I have talked about other days of the month but have finally confirmed the day.
