Howdy!!!
Well, I did not order the loud thunder or any rain that fell on early Wednesday morning. I am not going to do any rain dance for further rain, although we will need some, throughout the growing season. Just last night Deb asked me why our lawn was so hard and the reason being (careful how I say this), it needs water. Remember, your lawn needs approximately an inch of water a week during the growing season. I know that those of you that would prefer not to mow any grass during the growing season but you would have to admit that well groomed lawns do look very nice. It also does something to the soul after you have completed the task of mowing and sit back and enjoy the site of newly mowed lawns but also the smell of freshly cut grass. There is also been a problem of patchy lawns this spring and more so this year than other years. There are lawns that look very good and others are taking their sweet old time greening up. There could be many reasons for this to include; insects, nutrients (too much or too little, diseases and water. If you can pull those dead looking spots up real easy that could be a very good sign of an insect called “white grub”. If your lawn is yellowing or seems to be at a stalemate, this could be a lack of nutrients and if your lawn is yellowing, especially after fertilizing, you probably applied too much nutrients. We did have some disease issues this spring as well, namely snow mold, but there have also been other diseases showing up, but in any alarming fashion. In this area we need to aerate this soil. If you have any concerns about your lawns please give me a call and we will discuss your situation. Remember, what your neighbor has might not be what you have, showing up in your lawn.
Deb and I did get our water feature up and sort of running over the weekend. My mother-in-law also got into the scene and helped clean the leaves out of the pond. I will admit I did not help in the process and let me tell you it is a very dirty job. They did a very good job. We have been very busy preparing for the annual Relay for Life garden tour as we are one of the homes on the tour this year. It is amazing how, when the pressure is on, how you can find things that need attention
