Howdy!!!!
Well, here we are back in the rain front again!!!!!  Rain amounts varied around the county this last week with trace amounts to over 3 inches.  The western to northwestern part of the county took the brunt of the rain storms.  There are reported areas of water in places they have never seen water before.  On the brighter side of things crops are being harvested, the sweet corn is very good and we are not far away from the season opener of waterfowl.  This brings me to another topic of hunting with your kids.  I really do enjoy hunting and especially hunting with family members.  This past fall my boys took dad hunting a couple different times.  They furnished the transportation, guns, shells, blinds and the work of setting up the decoys. Hunting is much different today than it was many years ago.  The first flock of birds would come in and they would let dad know when it is time to shoot.  Needless to say I would drop a few birds and miss more than I would hit as the empty shells would indicate.  There really is a lot to be said for peacefulness in a blind and waiting for that thrill of that first flock to arrive.  After I shoot my first 6-7 shots I find myself watching others having fun.  “I got that duck”, no you didn’t, I did.  Then that flock will arrive where many birds should have been dropped and not any fell.  Everybody looks at their gun thinking it was the guns fault.  I guess what I am trying to say out of all of this is, as I GROW older I find myself not needing a limit of any game, including fish, but the beauty of being outdoors being the reward.  “Enjoy the great outdoors this fall and the beauty that comes along with the fall season”

Anthrax!!!
As most of you have heard by now, Anthrax has been found in many areas of North Dakota.  The area has primarily been East Central and Eastern North Dakota.  The areas have generally been along riverways but could include other areas.  There are many animal species that can be affected including cattle, buffalo, Elk and horses to name a few.  There are vaccines’ available to control the anthrax.  It is very effective and safe.  It is highly recommended to give two does 2 to 3 weeks apart for maximum protection.  The vaccine is safe for all classes of livestock, including pregnant animals.  THIS VACCINE SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO HORSES WITH A WET HAIR COAT.  Anthrax can not be introduced to your farm by giving the vaccination.  So, if your neighbor has had anthrax in their herd should I vaccinate?  The answer is yes.  Vaccination is a cheap policy against high cattle prices.

Noxious and Invasive weeds???
A new website “Invasive Species Web-based manual” is now available at www.agdepartment.com/noxiousweeds.  For those of you with internet this is a very good site for not only information but the site also has very good pictures for identification purposes.  If you do not have access to internet stop by the office and I will help you identify a weed or will locate someone that does know.
