Howdy!!!
Well Christmas is finally upon us and I really can’t believe it.  It seems only yesterday that I moved to Devils Lake and now it’s been over a year.  As I look at x-mas, this year, it reminds me of many things but the things that stick out the most is our kids during this time of year.  Their anticipation of what Santa might bring, their unwillingness to go to bed x-mas eve (they might miss Santa) and most of all, their excitement of what this season really means.  We always got many questions about the meaning of Christmas and why we always had to go to mid night mass.  Funny thing is; they always remembered each year like the back of their hand.  I remember, still living on the farm, driving to Devils Lake to pick up my Grandparents for x-mas dinner and card playing and then the return to Devils Lake and driving around looking at the lights.  My Grandparents always enjoyed that drive to see the pretty lights everyone had lighting their yard.  Just this morning, I was reminded of the many Christmas concerts that my kids use to be a part of and in a very fast way I felt quite old.  I guess what I am trying to say about this part of my article is enjoy this holiday season for the true meaning of x-mas and as always enjoy your family and friends as we never know what tomorrow will bring.  I miss many parts of our old Christmas day (including my grandparents) but there is always a new beginning for a new tradition.  “MERRY CHRISTMAS”

Shooting Sports!!!!!!
Our shooting sports certified volunteers are getting fired up for the upcoming shooting sports season.  They met last week and are offering classes this winter season for both rifle and archery.  Youth between the ages of 10-17 may register for the classes.  The rifle classes will start January 12th, with classes starting at 6-7:30 and 7:30-9 pm.  They have set a registration deadline of January 6th to set their classes and get the certified instructors prepared for the classes.  The cost will be $15 for the first student in the family and $10 for each additional student.  The monies are used to defray the cost of targets, pellets and other misc. items.  The classes will be held in the basement of the Memorial building.  For more information and to register please stop by or call the Extension office at 701-662-7027.  Class size is limited to 12 students per session, so hurry on in and register your students.

The Archery classes will start February 2nd and will run for 5 weeks, with another class to start March 9th and run for 5 weeks.  These classes are also offered to youth between the ages of 10-17.  The class times will also start at 6 and 7:30 consecutively.  The March session will include one session for students that have taken the beginner class.  The classes will be held in the Armory, adjoining to the Memorial building.  Class sizes are limited to 6 students per class.  SO HURRY ON IN AND REGISTER YOUR STUDENT FOR EITHER CLASS.  Call or stop by the Extension office at 701-662-7027.

Christmas Trees????
Be very careful this Christmas season with your Christmas trees.  Keep them watered and as always do not leave your lights on while unattended.  I found that by using a hand spray bottle and giving the branched a shot of water every other day seemed to help give life to the tree and may help reduce the dryness of the tree.
