Howdy!!!!

I suppose Saint Nick has been to your house by now and everyone is full of the traditional Christmas goodies.  Christmas is, by far, my most favorite time of year although with our recent move into our new home, Christmas shopping has not been a priority of mine.  It will be fun to see family members once again and to see what surprises are in those boxes.

I thought moving into our new home was going to be a relaxing time and was I ever fooled.  My sister-in-law and wife had other plans.  They had chosen a plan, which would require our home to be lived in and ready for x-mas in 2 days.  I “WAS” so tired on Friday night that Saint Nick could have visited me in bed and would have never known it.

Our home does look very good and now that the bull rush is over, I am glad we dug in so fast.  We even found everything that was missing.

The, everyday, changing weather pattern we have been having is also a challenge.  Our pets need special attention during this changing weather.  The fluctuations can cause problems in our pets such as colds or even flu like symptoms.  Be very cautious of providing plenty of water and food for them during this stressed time and of course provide a warm environment for them to rest.

Lake Region Extension Roundup Set for Jan. 5-6

The 2005 Lake Region Extension Roundup will be in Devils Lake on Jan. 5-6.

The event includes presentations on agricultural production issues and some family health and financial management topics.

Building's Armory Room or the Historical Room and meeting room in the nearby Ramsey County Courthouse.

Both days start with a breakfast at 8 a.m. The program begins at 9:30.

The North Dakota State University Extension Service organizes the roundup with help from agriculture-related businesses and agencies.

Concurrent sessions will be on corn, soybeans, barley, wheat and the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network in the Armory Room; the coexistence of organic, biotech and conventional crop production systems, interpreting yield monitor data and developments in field pea production in the Historical Room; and developments in dry bean production, small-grain disease research, winter wheat and identity theft in the courthouse meeting room.

General sessions Jan. 6 will include no-till crop management in northeastern North Dakota; the impact of crop rotation on no-till farming; soybean diseases and production; and changes in crop production costs in northeastern North Dakota.

Concurrent sessions include the 2005 corn and soybean outlook, sunflower production and canola diseases in the Armory Room; oilseed contracts, soybean biodiesel development, managing grain contracting risk, inheriting and purchasing farms, and tips for a healthy lifestyle in the courthouse meeting room; and beef industry updates, electronic identification, no-till production and managing stored, wet grain in the Historical Room.
