Howdy!!!!!
It is a sure sign of spring; WARMER TEMPERATURES.
This past weekend was beautiful with many hours being spent outside.
Fishing was really good this past weekend for me.
Many large walleyes were caught and released.
As I sat in my pickup on Saturday and watched different people fishing, I could not help but wonder what different occupations were on the lake. I talked to a couple from south of Mitchell, South Dakota that operated a dairy farm. They milked 350 dairy cows and farmed 4000 acres of land. We visited about many different things from farming, to dairying, to family and most of all fishing. Many great fishing stories were told from around the upper Midwest to Canadian fishing trips. It was great to see people fishing, who loved the sport, but catching a limit of fish was not a top priority. The best part of the day for them was getting away from work and the fact that the better half caught the biggest Walleye, about 26 inches in length. What a fun day!!!!!!!!!
Sunscald!!!!!
This kind of weather fluctuations is extremely hard on most trees.
The most common winter injury occurs when trees are stressed due to
extreme temperature differences. Injury
occurs when freezing occurs following a warmer weather pattern.
Winter injury usually occurs from the snowline and up and occurs from the
sun warming the needles on the south and southwest side of the tree during
daylight hours (causing them to break dormancy) and then freezing during evening
hours. There is not a lot that we
can do for our trees now but remember this spring when the tree looks harmed
what the cause was probably from. Sunscald
should not hurt the tree but, on rare occasions, the tree may be damaged.
Increase Seed$$$$$$$$
Anyone interested in growing Increase seed for the Ramsey County Crop
Improvement association should contact our office for applications.
Foundation Tradition is available but because of the nature of
release with this variety a very short timeline has been included with this
application. The application needs
to be in our office by 4 pm Friday February 18.
To qualify for an allotment you must have grown certified seed 2 of the
last 4 years. We also have
allotments of Glenn HRSW, Stellar Barley, Carter Flax, and Pembina Conventional
Soybean. These varieties have very
good agronomic characteristics for our area and should be great commodities for
future enhancement of the bottom line in profitable Ag. Please call our office or stop by to get an application for
these varieties. Call the Extension
office at 701-662-7027. The
deadline for applying for these other varieties is March 16.
