Howdy!!!!

North Dakota weather???????  The weather is sure a bit different today than it was this past Friday and especially so, early last week.  I can live with this kind of weather.  I even took time to go fishing Sunday evening, to enjoy the nice weather.  Even caught a couple nicer walleyes.

Speaking of the cold weather last week, I was reminded of many years ago helping neighbor (Gilman Hoime) move hay home, with a team of horses.  I do not remember how cold the day was other than it was very much below zero.  We harnessed the horses, hitched up and headed for the haystack, about a mile from home.  After about 2.5 hours, we finally had the haystack cut and loaded on the bobsled.  The journey on the way back to the farm was even more eventful.  About half way home, we tipped the load of hay and needed to reload.  After about another hour we were finally on our way.  We made it to the barn with the sun shining bright but still very cold.  Gilman’s wife, May, had coffee and fresh lefse made for breakfast (what a treat), more for a warmer upper than anything.  After breakfast we headed to the barn to unload the hay.  We hooked the team up to the pull rope and started the process of pulling the hay up with the sling and as the load reached the trip, to enter the barn, the horses slipped on the ice and tripped the load of hay on the wrong side of the barn door.  Another hour of loading hay back onto the sled.  "My, oh, My" how things have changed to today’s mechanical loaders and feed wagons.

Seed Increase for distribution$$$$$$$$$$
The Ramsey County Crop Improvement association has Tradition barley, Steele ND and Granger (Hard Red Spring Wheat) for distribution to county producers.  We have about 3000 bushels of Tradition left and about 3400 bushels of certified Steele ND left and approximately 2200 bushels of Granger.  To place your seed order, for these varieties, either stop by the Extension office or call 701-662-7027.  Any seed still available, mid February, will be offered to producers from around the state.  This would be your chance to purchase new varieties of seed to increase profitability in your farming operation.

Shooting Sports Certification classes!!!!!!
Our Shooting Sports Certification class that was to be held last weekend has been postponed to February 4 and 5.  We have 10 volunteers registered from Ramsey County but would be glad to add any other volunteers that might like to be included in this class.  We will be offering shooting disciplines of Archery and Rifle.  We could really use more volunteers in the Archery discipline.  If you are interested in joining our fun volunteers contact the Extension office at 701-662-7027.
