Howdy!!!
Hasn’t this weather been something else!!!!
I was out fishing on Saturday and could not believe how nice it can get
in March. Comparing the weather to
the time of year makes me a little leary of what may lie ahead for weather
conditions. I know that one storm
can change a lot of things in a matter of an hour but there is not much snow
cover in our area fields. I heard a couple of weeks ago, of a prediction by the
national weather service, that the Lake will crest higher than last springs
crest; I’m not sure where that number is coming from either.
The gardening season is fast approaching as well and should be looking at planting some of those seeds in the near future. When ordering seed, make sure to ask for the germination of the seed and also if the seed is carryover seed or new seed. Old seed can be grown if kept from year to year but make sure to do a germination test on the seed before planting. There are many good suppliers of seed in our area and are willing to help you with your planting decisions.
GPS Training!!!!
We will be holding basic GPS training Tuesday, March 15th, 7 pm.
The training will be held at the Armory, and use the south door.
There will be a $ 5.00 registration fee for this class. You are encouraged to bring your GPS unit.
This training will help you learn how to use your GPS unit or learn to
use the GPS units that will be provided for that training.
This will be a great time to learn how these units will help you locate a
rock, favorite fishing hole and also help with driving directions.
To register for the class please call the Extension office at
701-662-7027. There will be a
limited class size. SEE YOU THERE
Ramsey County Crop

held March 17th in the Armory of the Memorial building.
The meeting will start at 9 am with registration and will feature Pea

panel discussion (including a buying trade rep).
Right after a sponsored lunch (Devils lake Equipment, Twete Inc. and
Ramsey County Crop Improvement association) Twete Inc and Devils Lake Equipment
will give short presentations on their new no-till drills.
This will be followed by a short annual meeting.
New increase growers will be announced at that time for the varieties of
Glenn (HRSW), Pembina (conventional soybean), Carter (Flax), Stellar (Barley)
and Tradition (Barley). This will
be a great time to learn new innovative techniques, strategies, a chance to
visit your neighbors and get a great noon lunch.
Horticulture Classes!!!!!
Get ready, Get set and Go!!!!!; spring is here and so is the Horticulture
season. We will be offering
horticulture classes starting Tuesday, April 5.
The classes will continue April 12, April 19 and May 3.
The classes will talk about Lawn Care, Annuals and Perennials, Trees and
Shrubs and end with an “Extreme Makeover” of someone’s yard.
The group will go to someone’s yard and give suggestions on what they
would change or what should be planted using the information they have learned
from the previous 3 classes. There
will be $20 pre-registration fee, $30 per couple.
We have presenters coming from Fargo to help with classes and this
registration fee will cover mileage, cookies, coffee and the last night will end
with hamburgers and beverages. This
will be another great time to learn about the new genetics in gardening and also
get some ideas for your own landscape design.
