Howdy!!!!!!
What a windy weekend we had this past weekend.  I did not hear specifically what the wind speed was but heard unconfirmed reports of 75 mph during the middle of the night.  A brother-in-law called Saturday morning and wanted all the in-laws and out-laws to meet for supper that night and I tell you what; I am not sure which was more windy, the in-laws or the wind.  It really was fun to get together as family and enjoy each others stories.  Time is very short in our lives and as I get older I find time flying by rather than having to “wait” for tomorrow; so my story is, to enjoy your friends and relatives as they are and what they bring to the gathering.  Sunday was a day from some twilight zone.  We mowed and planted flowers until we were ready to drop and then headed for graduation in Munich.

Planting Perennials!!!!!
This past weekend we planted many different perennials in our flower gardens.  I tried many different hardiness zone type plants; some of which probably will not survive our hard winter months.  It will be very interesting to watch all these plants grow and how they survive.  I have two high lights that I would like to bring to attention.  When purchasing your flowers always check on the identification card the hardiness zone.  Generally anything zone 5 and higher will have difficulties surviving in our area.  The other thing I would like to talk about is our flower beds.  Anyone wishing to watch our flowers grow are welcomed to drive out and watch their progress, I have them labeled and are all full sun.  I will keep you posted how they turn out during the growing season and the survival rate of them during the hard winter months.

4-H Shooting Sports class being offered!!!!!
We are offering a shot gun class this summer for youth interested in learning more about the fine art of shooting a shotgun.  This class will teach all safety and handling features of a shotgun plus allow you to shoot at clay pigeons.  This class is open to youth ages 11-17 years of age and a parent or guardian must accompany the youth to class.  The class will start June 6 and will continue through the end of July, with the 4th of July off.  Class size is limited to 5 students so hurry on in and join the fun.  There will be a $30 registration fee to cover the cost of pigeons and you will also need to bring your own shells.  Contact the extension office at 701-662-7027 for more information.

 Tractor Safety School!!!!!
I would like to invite any interested youth (ages 14 years of age and older) to attend a Tractor Safety School.  The school will be held June 7, 8, 9 at the Ramsey County new fair grounds.  Young farmers will have the opportunity to learn safety issues in a class room setting and also gain experience, and learn safety points, in driving a tractor with a trailer.  This will be a great time for young farmers to, not only learn safe farming practices but also get acquainted with new friends.  There will be a $25 charge to cover the cost of materials and lunch.  For more information contact the Extension office at 701-662-7027.
