Howdy!!!!!
Is x-mas here already???? If you would take a drive down our street there
are homes getting a Christmas face lift, including mine. It was such a nice day
that it became very hard to pass up this chance. But I did, however, get a
little guff from my brother-in-law about turning on my lights before
Thanksgiving. This is such a fun time of year, its’ too bad Christmas becomes
so difficult on the pocketbook. I don’t want to get into the age thing, nor do
I want to imply things are getting to expensive but not many years ago we could
buy some very nice gifts for $20.00 and that number has gone up considerably
today. Then to top off the whole picture, my family seems to have everything
they need and want, so buying something useful becomes an even bigger task.
The deer season has come to end for the rifle part of it and now the Black Powder season will soon start in a couple of days. The thing I found very interesting deer hunting this past couple of weeks is the large number of grouse and partridge. I hope we have a mild winter so the numbers of birds can survive and provide many hunting opportunities, for all ages. This might also be a great time to see the pheasant numbers increase, that the outdoor clubs have been releasing, in the lake region area.
We have many educational activities coming up this winter, so “stay tuned”. With the increased interest in Horticulture, Cattle and Ag commodities we will try to make every effort to keep you current with not only old ideas, but also new technologies and research, to increase your own capabilities and bottom line dollars.
Shooting Sports!!!!!!
Our shooting sports certified volunteers are getting fired up for the
upcoming shooting sports season. They met last week and are offering classes
this winter season for both rifle and archery. Youth between the ages of 10-17
may register for the classes. The rifle classes will start January 12th,
with classes starting at 6-7:30 and 7:30-9 pm. They have set a registration
deadline of January 6th to set their classes and get the certified
instructors prepared for the classes. The cost will be $15 for the first
student in the family and $10 for each additional student. The monies are used
to defray the cost of targets, pellets and other misc. items. The classes will
be held in the basement of the Memorial building. For more information and to
register please stop by or call the Extension office at 701-662-7027. Class
size is limited to 12 students per session, so hurry on in and register your
students.
The Archery classes will start February 2nd and will run for 5 weeks, with another class to start March 9th and run for 5 weeks. These classes are also offered to youth between the ages of 10-17. The class times will also start at 6 and 7:30 consecutively. The March session will include one session for students that have taken the beginner class. The classes will be held in the Armory, adjoining to the Memorial building. Class sizes are limited to 6 students per class. SO HURRY ON IN AND REGISTER YOUR STUDENT FOR EITHER CLASS. Call or stop by the Extension office at 701-662-7027.
“Cattleman’s Night Out”
This is a reminder of “Cattleman’s Night Out” Thursday, December 1, at Lake
Region Livestock. I mentioned this in the last couple of articles as being in
December and seeming a long ways off, but here we are only 1 1/2 weeks away.
The educational presenters will provide you with information to enhance your own
cattle business and a bunch of Extension agents, along with Jim and Mary
Zeigler, will provide you with supper. The main menu will be Rocky Mountain
Oysters and Chili. This is an open invite to all cattle producers, from
throughout the northern tier of North Dakota, to enjoy a free meal and learn
valuable information, to enhance your bottom line dollar. For more information
call your local extension office or give me a call at Ramsey County Extension
office at 701-662-7027. I would like to thank Jim and Mary for offering their
facility and sponsoring this event. They have been very helpful and even brew
some very good chili. SO, COME ONE, COME ALL TO THE 2ND ANNUAL
“CATTLEMAN’S NIGHT OUT”.
