Howdy!!!!!
Well’ get ready, get set, and go; the first snow of the year is hear.  The older I get the less interest I have in snow but one would have to admit that its beauty splendor is awesome.  I was told once that as the first snow came you could literally hear the accidents happening around the neighborhood.  Well, that actually happened this past week and it sounded awful, hopefully no one was hurt.  I have also noticed the Christmas lights being hung around town and surrounding communities.  It really is a great time of year.  It is just too bad that my pocketbook is always so empty, this time of year, as x-mas is my all time favorite holiday of the year.

The thought of buying a Christmas tree brings the whole holiday season together.  That right tree for the right place in the house is always a challenge.  This is also the season that all homeowners take that extra precaution in bringing that tree into your home or hanging that garland around in your home.  These holiday treats can become very dry, if not properly handled, and can cause concerns for fire.  Take every precaution to keep water in the tree stand and, a spray bottle of water can help keep the garland moist.  Last year, I hung a role of rope lights around my house in Lisbon.  I left about 1/8 of the lights still on the roll and plugged in the lights.  I always like to look to see how they might look before finishing the job.  I left the lights on all night long, not thinking about the lights that were still rolled up in the container.  Too my surprise the next night, I reached for the roll of unstrung lights and they were all burnt black.  A very valuable lesson, which fortunately, did not cost us our home or our lives.

County Crop Improvement Seed distribution!!!!
Ramsey County Crop Improvement has increase seed available for distribution to county growers.  The varieties available include:  ND Steele (HRSW), Granger (HRSW) and Tradition (Barley).  These lots are cleaned for distribution.  For information regarding the three increase lots being distributed call the Extension Office at 701-662-7027.  The seed is a first come first serve basis.

Horticulture Classes Coming!!!!
Horticulture classes will be coming soon to Devils Lake.  I will be offering 4 classes of Horticulture experiences in April and May.  I know that is a long ways off but think about how the last four months have gone and bingo spring is here.  I write like this a lot as snow makes me think of spring.  We will be offering classes on lawn Care, Trees, Annuals and Perennials with the last class being a hands on class on someone’s yard.  This was a big hit last year in Ransom County.  The chance to get together as a group and design a yard landscape is always very gratifying.  So, stay tuned for the classes coming in April and May.
